Deliciously complex, Biryani has become a beacon for Indian food worldwide. Tracing the history of Biryani is a lesson in history itself with roots tracing back as early as the 2AD. One legend says the origins of Biryani stem from attempts to keep warriors nourished during battle, using rice, spices and meats, and then buried in an earthen pot in a hot pit. Another legend says the dish was brought to India by Arab traders. One thing we do know however is the word 'biryani' is derived from the Persian word Birian, which translates to ‘fried before cooking,' and Birinj, the Persian word for rice. 


In your cooking class, you'll transport to the region famous for Biryani, Hyderabad to learn the history and technique to this fabulous Indian meal. Paired with your class is Vegetable Masala, a hearty and belly warming curry perfect to enjoy with any leftover rice.
