The area of Cape Malay in South Africa has a rich although troubled history. In the early 17th century, political prisioners, largely from Indonesia and India, were brought to work the farms in Cape Town as slaves. The majority of these people were of Muslim descent and they came to be known as Cape Malays. This history has brought the world bright culinary traditions. Immigrants brought flavors from their home countries, which not long later merged into a fabulous fusion. This unique culture is found only in a small region in South Africa.
Cape Malay Curry is the celebration of what has become a beautiful and celebrated culture in the country. Warm spices, Indian flavors, and just a touch of heat showcase this diverse country.
