Cranberry season is in full swing, and the lucky Chef Joanie who comes to us from the heart of New England is in the middle of all the cranberry action.
Over 14,000 acres of cranberry bogs cover Cape Cod and the South Eastern part of Massachusetts. Those lucky enough to travel to this wonderful part of the world can visit a farm to get an up close experience.
Chef Joanie regularly works with this beautiful berry. With all those freshly harvested cranberries lining the grocery stores, what better time than now to experiment with a new recipe? We have several that we'll share in our Cranberry Series.
Let's get started with something simple. We just love Sugared Cranberries, a touch of sweet with a pop of tart. Chef Joanie added just a slight citrusy twist in this recipe. So easy to try. (Tip! They make for a beautiful gift to a holiday party this year, too!)
Sugared Cranberries with Orange Recipe
- Chef Joanie
1 & 1/2 cups cranberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Zest of 1 Orange
Bring water and sugar to a boil with the zest of one orange. Pour over 1 1/2 cups of fresh cranberries and cool for 1 hour. Drain, then roll them in 1/2 cup of sugar in a half sheet pan. The sugar sticks especially well if you have a slightly courser sugar. Let dry for 4 hours. Enjoy!
